To counter the marvelously tasty pastry consumption, go for a run! The Pi Day 5K is an opportunity for runners and math enthusiasts to celebrate Pi Day by covering 3.1415 miles (or 5.05334 kilometers for those adherents of the metric system) under their own power. That’s about it—‘tis a fun reason to run!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
First off, you register for the Pi Day 5K. Online registration is currently open. You can register at any time, up until midnight on March 5th. (Canadian registration closes one week earlier to allow for shipping times. Sorry, eh.) Your registration will come with a sumptuously soft Pi Day 5K shirt you can wear with pride, plus a bib number and finisher’s medal (if you wear the medal before completing the run, you will burst into flames), all which you will receive the week before the run dates. Run the Pi Day 5K wherever you’d like (on your favorite local running trail, in your neighborhood, on a treadmill, in a fog, on a log, etc) between March 12th and March 15th. Once you have run, report your time to us to be eligible for marvelous prizes.
WHOA HOLD ON THERE! You can’t just come into the kitchen and interrupt the chef while he’s still baking. Come back in a bit to see the mathematically-precise swag baking in the oven.

Is this a virtual run? You are CORRECT!
What is a virtual run? A virtual run is one that you do on your own time and on the course of your own choosing. We give you a timeframe to complete the distance, and you report your results digitally.
Why should I participate in a virtual run? The short answer would be because they are cool. Brad Pitt, Taylor Swift, and Christopher Walken all endorse virtual runs.* The more detailed top 4 reasons include:
The chance to add a really cool medal (also known as “bling”) to your collection.
Complete control over your schedule. Complete the run on your own time. No travel expenses, no hassle with parking, and no long lines waiting at the potty.
An opportunity to support a great cause
…and last but not least, because running is sexy.
Who can participate? Everybody and anybody! There is no age limit and there are no restrictions. So run, jog, walk, crawl (not recommended unless you’re a quadruped or really really odd), run alone, run in a group, run with your pet, it doesn’t matter. Just get out there and run!
Can I complete the run with a group? Yes! We even have an award for most members in a group run!
Do I have to complete the distance all at one time or can I break it up into different days? No you are not required to run your distance all at one time. Feel free to break it up into several runs if you need to.
When will I receive my t-shirt and medal? Your t-shirt, medal and bib will be mailed out the week before the run.
Do the medals come with a ribbon? Yes! Every medal will come with a ribbon!
I don’t live in the United States, can I still participate? Are you Canadian? Then YES! Unfortunately, if you live outside the US or Canada, we do not cover shipping to those locations at this time. Registrations outside of the US or Canada will be cancelled and refunded.
*this statement unsubstantiated from any evidence, circumstantial or otherwise. But in our hearts we know it’s true.
Due to the upfront nature of event costs, we cannot offer refunds, transfers, or deferrals. Make sure that you are good to go when you sign up! All sales are 100% final.
